Drawing and colouring games can be a wonderful way for children to use their imagination in 2027. With a few crayons, paper, or a simple drawing app, a child can turn a blank page into a house, an animal, a rainbow, or a whole imaginary world. These games do not need expensive tools, and they can help children practise colours, shapes, and patience while having fun.

Start with Simple Drawing Games

For younger children, start with simple games. Ask them to draw their favourite animal, their family, or a place they would like to visit. A game of finishing a picture can also work well: draw half a shape and ask the child to finish it, or draw a simple line and ask them to turn it into something. Keep the games short and praise the effort, not just the result. When children feel free to try, they are more likely to keep drawing.

Try Colouring by Number and Pattern

Colouring games can help children learn colours and practise staying inside lines. Colouring by number is a gentle way to learn numbers and colours together. Pattern games, such as colouring every second shape, can help with counting and attention. You can print simple colouring pages, draw your own outlines, or use a drawing app with a colour palette. Choose pictures that match the child’s age and interests, such as animals, vehicles, flowers, or letters.

Make Drawing a Family Activity

Drawing is even better when it is shared. Sit with your child and draw together, or ask each family member to add one part to a shared picture. A family drawing game, where one person draws a head, the next draws a body, and the next draws legs, can lead to funny results and lots of laughter. Display finished pictures on a wall or fridge, so children can see their work is valued. This can build confidence and encourage them to try new ideas.

Use Drawing to Learn Words and Stories

Drawing can also support learning. Ask a child to draw a story they heard, or to draw the main character from a book. They can draw the weather, the seasons, or the food they ate. Older children can make a simple comic strip with three or four boxes, drawing a beginning, a middle, and an end. These activities can help children remember new words, practise telling a story in order, and connect pictures with ideas.

Choose Safe Tools and Apps

If you use a drawing app, choose one made for children, with no ads, no chat, and no in-app purchases that a child could tap by accident. Check the app’s settings and keep screen time short, with breaks for drawing on paper as well. For paper drawing, use washable crayons and non-toxic materials, and keep small items away from very young children. Store finished drawings in a folder, so they do not get lost or torn.

Keep It Playful, Not Perfect

The goal of drawing games is play, not a perfect picture. Avoid correcting every line or telling a child that a colour is wrong. Instead, ask questions such as, What is happening in your picture? or What will you draw next? This can help children think about their ideas and feel proud of their work. If a child gets frustrated, suggest a new game or a break, and return to drawing later.

In 2027, creative drawing and colouring games remain a simple, low-cost way to support a child’s imagination. With simple games, shared family drawing, safe tools, and a playful attitude, children can enjoy colours and shapes while learning at the same time. Keep a small box of drawing tools ready, and you will always have a quiet, creative activity to offer.
