Benazir Income Support Program (BISP)

Benazir Income Support Program (BISP)

The Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) is a social safety net program in Pakistan that provides financial assistance to low-income households. The program was launched in 2008 by the government of Pakistan, with the goal of reducing poverty and promoting social equality.

Under the program, eligible households are provided with a monthly cash transfer, which is aimed at helping them meet their basic needs such as food, shelter, and healthcare. The amount of the cash transfer varies depending on the size of the household and their income level.

To determine eligibility, the program uses a poverty scorecard system that takes into account a variety of factors such as household income, assets, and expenditures. The scorecard is used to identify the most vulnerable households and to ensure that the program’s resources are targeted to those who need them the most.

In addition to providing financial assistance, the BISP also offers a range of other services to help households improve their economic and social well-being. These services include vocational training, health and nutrition education, and access to microfinance loans.

The BISP has been recognized as one of the largest and most successful social safety net programs in the world. It has helped to reduce poverty and improve the lives of millions of households in Pakistan, particularly women and children.

Who Is Eligible For BISP

BISP (Benazir Income Support Programme) is a social safety net program initiated by the Government of Pakistan to provide financial assistance to low-income households across the country.

To be eligible for BISP, an individual must meet the following criteria:

  2. The applicant should be a Pakistani citizen or must possess a valid Pakistani National Identity Card (CNIC).
